If you’ve been hit by Cupid’s bow and your loved one pops the question on Valentine’s Day, why not consider a romantic Sunshine Coast park or beach to celebrate your special day?
Whether you are envisaging a jaw-dropping ocean vista or a rustic bushland backdrop, there’s a plethora of Insta-worthy ceremony spots sprinkled throughout the coast.
Caloundra couple Kristy Taylor and Mitch Wilson tied the knot on the gorgeous Golden Beach esplanade in 2017.
“Our ceremony location was the perfect blend of coastal parkland and lovely water views, there was no other place we could imagine having our wedding,” Kristy said.
“It was great to be able to say our vows somewhere special close to home, surrounded by family and friends.
“Getting a permit from council to hold our ceremony was an easy process. All you need to do is fill in the form online, email it to council and once it’s confirmed you pay an $84 booking fee.
“I really recommend considering a council park or beach for your wedding ceremony if you’re looking for an affordable location with million dollar views.”
All Sunshine Coast managed beaches and parks are available for ceremonies, be sure to contact council to apply for permission.

Things to consider when organising a ceremony at a Sunshine Coast beach or park
- If you propose using a beach for your ceremony it must take place outside the flagged bathing area (yellow flags) setup on the day.
- Ceremonies will not be approved in dog off-leash area.
- How important is it that you have control of the area chosen? Other people may be in the area picnicking, playing or walking dogs or this may be a designated dog off leash area. There may also be another ceremony both before and/or after your booking.
- Can the official party and all your guests get to the area safely?
- Do you have elderly or mobility impaired guests?
- Is the area easily accessible for delivering equipment and setup? Vehicle access is not permitted into park or beach areas. Vehicles must be parked in designated car parking spaces.
- Do you have a wet weather alternative?
- Your booking will ensure that there are no other bookings for the same time and in the same location. However, the approval does not guarantee exclusive use of the area and its facilities.
- Council keeps its parks and gardens tidy on a routine maintenance program. Council does not provide special mowing or servicing of the area. Council cannot control leaf or other debris from people using the area before your ceremony.
- Some areas are more exposed to the elements than others, for example, late afternoon winds along the coastal strip. The available space and ambience of beaches is also affected by high or low tides. Council recommends you check the local tide times.
