Dear Caloundra
Dear Caloundra Residents,
I’m Jake Moss. I’m an artist, a brother, an uncle, a godfather, and i’m also a person who sometimes thinks it’s kinda sad that writing letters to people isn’t a thing we really do anymore
– and it’s even sadder when you realise this way of communicating won’t be making a comeback. Personal letters were hand written and posted for so long, and i can’t remember
the last time i received anything in the mail that wasn’t junk mail or a bill or one of those “welcome to the area” letters politicians get their assistants to send.
I’m also a sucker for doing things “one last time”.
Maybe that means saying last goodbyes to a dying relative, or eating one last chocolate before i start a diet, or walking through an empty house i used to call a home – one last time before i move.
I don’t think any of us will be posting personal letters again – as emails and texts and social media took over from this years ago.
So, well, i’d really like to post a letter, one last time, to all of you (okay so maybe i’ll end up sending 100 letters but you get the point haha).
So, if you’d like to join me in this project I invite you to write an open letter about Caloundra, it could be a memory or place or person or hope for the future.
Each of the letters will be scanned and shared online at dearcaloundra.com.
I just think it’d be really nice, if for the last time, we came together and sent our last letters.
Special Place2 letterboxes will be installed in Bulcock Street during the first week of October. Each letterbox will feature the artwork of local artist Leonie Wohlsen. Simply pop your letter in and enjoy the moment.
Check out the Place2 map for specific letterbox locations.
I hope to hear from you.
All the best,
Jake Moss
p.s. don’t feel awkward about sending me a letter – i’m the one who’s asking thousands of people to write me one hahahaha.
