Caloundra Film Festival
13 October 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 28 October 2020 @ 10:00 pm

The 2020 Caloundra Film Festival starts tonight and what a great response we’ve had to what is a wide ranging and diverse set of films. Thank you. We’ve sold way more Festival passes than ever before which reminds us how cheap you all are, but it does mean you can drink more and we think the program is pretty good too. Bonus!
Seating restrictions have been relaxed so extra seats are now available which is good as not everyone can come to everything and we will be across 3 cinemas so there will be plenty of room. If you have a sniffle or have been anywhere near Donald Trump, or anyone who has been near him which sounds unpleasant anyway, don’t come.
Tonight its the crowd pleasing and very clever The Whistlers (With two shorts, CLAY and The Whistleblower). Tomorrow night, Wed 14th we have the extraordinary Max Richter’s Sleep (England-Germany). “Monumental!” Screamed (softly) the LA Times. Bring a sleeping bag if you want to really experience it. Pyjamas. We don’t mind. We don’t judge.
Next week its the thought-provoking and sensitive drama Young Ahmed (Belgium-France) on Oct 20 which is the story of the radicalisation of a young student by the accomplished directorial team, the brothers Dardenne. Followed by the amazing The Painter and the Thief (Norway) on October 21 which upends the viewer in unexpected ways.
Ask not what the painter is doing for the thief, but what the thief is doing for the painter.” The New Yorker. We don’t even understand the cartoons in The New Yorker, but we’re sure he’s right.
Then we have the Cesar award winning In the Name of the Land, (Au nom de la Terre) (France) the The Perfect Candidate (Saudi Arabia-Germany) and finally The Men’s Room (Norway) to round the whole thing off with another viewing of CLAY (we know you’ll want to see it again) and The Whistleblower so we can see Sunshine Coast film makers at work. Not in their pyjamas.
There’s so much good Cinema to experience we hope you take some time to explore it.
